The 2026 Jeep Wrangler maintenance schedule pairs indicator-based oil changes with a mileage chart in 10,000-mile steps for the 2.0L and 3.6L. Here is what Jeep's owner's manual lists at each mileage, and how the 6.4L Moab 392 differs.

At a glance
  • Oil changes follow the indicator. On the 2026 2.0L and 3.6L, Jeep says oil change intervals should never exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 engine hours, whichever comes first.
  • The chart runs in 10,000-mile steps. Jeep's 2.0L and 3.6L chart starts at 20,000 miles and pairs each mileage with a year, whichever comes first.
  • Big items land at set miles. Engine air filters every 30,000, spark plugs at 60,000 on the 2.0L and at 100,000 on the 3.6L.
  • The 392 has its own plan. The 6.4L Moab 392 follows a 6,000-mile chart, with oil changes never past 6,000 miles or six months.

How does the 2026 Jeep Wrangler maintenance schedule work?

The 2026 Jeep Wrangler maintenance schedule combines an oil change indicator with a mileage chart that pairs each mileage with years. Jeep's 2026 Wrangler owner's manual says the vehicle has an automatic oil change indicator system. When service is due, the cluster shows "Oil Change Required" with a single chime. On vehicles without the cluster display, "Change Oil" flashes in the odometer instead.

The second part is a chart for the 2.0L turbo and 3.6L V6. It lists inspections and replacements at 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 miles and on up, each paired with a number of years. The 6.4L V8 in the Moab 392 has a separate plan, covered further down.

10,000 miMost an oil change interval should ever reach on the 2026 2.0L and 3.6L, or 12 months (owner's manual)
12,000 miCabin air filter replacement interval on every 2026 Wrangler engine (owner's manual)
6,000 miMost an oil change interval should reach on the 2026 6.4L, or six months (owner's manual)

The manual's own note is direct: "Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 10,000 miles (16,000 km), 12 months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first." It adds that the 350-hour limit is generally only a concern for fleet customers. You can book any of these visits through our Jeep service center.

What does Jeep list at every Wrangler oil change?

An oil and filter change, a tire rotation and a set of inspections, every time the indicator calls for service. For the 2.0L and 3.6L, the 2026 manual lists these items at every oil change interval shown by the indicator system. This visit is also due at 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, if the indicator has not appeared sooner.

  • Change oil and filter.
  • Rotate the tires. Jeep adds: rotate at the first sign of irregular wear, even if it occurs before the indicator turns on.
  • Inspect the 12 Volt battery, and clean and tighten the terminals as required.
  • Inspect the CV and universal joints.
  • Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hoses and the parking brake.
  • Inspect engine cooling system protection and hoses, plus the exhaust system.
  • Inspect the engine air cleaner filter if you drive in dusty or off-road conditions, and replace it if necessary.
  • Check the door latches for grease, and reapply if necessary.

Brake pads, rotors and hoses are inspected at every oil change on the 2026 2.0L and 3.6L.

Jeep also suggests lubricating the door hinge joints with white lithium grease twice a year. Our Mopar Express Lane page lists oil and filter changes and tire rotation with brake inspection among its services.

What is due at each mileage from 20,000 to 100,000 miles?

Every 20,000 miles brings suspension and brake inspections. Air filters come every 30,000, and spark plugs depend on the engine. The table follows the 2026 manual's chart for the 2.0L and 3.6L. Each mileage also has a year value, and the service is due at whichever comes first. The oil change visit items above are added whenever the indicator calls for them.

A few items sit outside the 10,000-mile grid. The cabin air filter is replaced every 12,000 miles. Jeep notes that spark plug intervals are mileage based only, so the year values do not apply to plugs.

Does the schedule differ between the 2.0L turbo and the 3.6L V6?

Mostly no. The 2.0L and 3.6L share one plan, but spark plugs differ: the 2.0L at 60,000 and 120,000 miles, the 3.6L at 100,000. Jeep's 2026 spec sheet lists the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 as standard on Sport and Rubicon. It lists the 2.0L Turbo I-4 as standard on Sahara and High Altitude, and available on Sport and Rubicon. Both share the same maintenance plan in the 2026 manual. See the full lineup on our new Jeep Wrangler page.

The coolant item names more than the engine. The manual covers engine coolant plus intercooler, power electronics and battery coolant, if equipped. The interval is 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.

How is the 6.4L Moab 392 maintenance schedule different?

The 6.4L follows its own chart in 6,000-mile steps, and its oil changes should never exceed 6,000 miles or six months. For the 6.4L, the manual asks you to have the vehicle serviced within 500 miles of the "Oil Change Required" message. It adds that the indicator does not track time, so change the oil after six months even if the message has not appeared.

Each mileage in the 6.4L chart is paired with months: 6,000 miles or 6 months, 12,000 or 12, and so on. Spark plugs are mileage based only.

  • Every 6,000 miles: oil and filter, tire rotation, CV and universal joint inspection, brake hose and line inspection.
  • Every 12,000 miles: inspect brake linings, exhaust, front suspension, tie rod ends and boot seals; replace the cabin air filter.
  • Every 24,000 miles: inspect front and rear axle fluid. Change it if the vehicle is used for police, taxi, fleet, sustained high speed, off-road or frequent trailer towing.
  • At 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000 miles: replace the engine air cleaner filter and drain and refill the transfer case. Adjust the parking brake on four-wheel disc brakes.
  • At 60,000 miles: inspect the accessory drive belts. At 90,000: inspect the PCV valve. At 96,000: replace the spark plugs.

The 6.4L also has a severe duty rule. Jeep defines Severe Duty vehicles as those used in dusty and off-road environments, or mostly at idle or very low engine RPM. For them, it recommends an oil change at 4,000 miles or 350 hours of engine run time.

Does off-roading or towing change a Wrangler's schedule?

Yes. Jeep adds fluid changes for off-road use, frequent trailer towing and fleet use, and air filter checks in dusty conditions. On the 2026 2.0L and 3.6L, the manual lists these conditional items. Each applies only if the vehicle is used that way.

  1. Front and rear axle fluid. Change it at 40,000, 80,000 and 120,000 miles if the Wrangler is used for police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent trailer towing.
  2. Transfer case fluid. Change it at 60,000 and 120,000 miles for police, taxi, fleet or frequent trailer towing.
  3. Manual transmission fluid (3.6L with the 6-speed manual). Change it every 30,000 miles if your use matches the manual's list. It includes trailer towing, heavy loading, off-road and desert operation, among other conditions.
  4. Engine air cleaner filter. Inspect it at every oil change if you drive in dusty or off-road conditions, and replace it if necessary.

Separately, Jeep's 2027 Wrangler FAQ says: "Frequent off-roading can increase wear, so timely service and quality parts matter." If you see irregular tire wear, ask about a 4-wheel alignment check.

Does Miami heat change a Wrangler's maintenance?

Jeep's 2.0L and 3.6L plan names hot weather once: manual transmission fluid, when over half your driving is sustained high speed above 90°F. That condition sits in the manual transmission fluid row. Jeep's 2026 spec sheet lists the 6-speed manual on the 3.6L only. Outside that row, the maintenance plans list no separate schedule for hot climates. Heat, strong sun and heavy rain are still part of daily driving here, so the once-a-month checks matter.

Jeep's once-a-month checks (2.0L and 3.6L)

Once a month or before a long trip: "Check the engine oil level." "Check the windshield washer fluid level." "Check the tire inflation pressures and look for unusual wear or damage, rotate at the first sign of irregular wear." "Check the fluid levels of the coolant reservoir, brake master cylinder, and power steering, and fill as needed." "Check the function of all interior and exterior lights." Dusty or off-road driving adds an engine air filter check at every oil change on the 2.0L and 3.6L.

On the 2.0L and 3.6L, the 12 Volt battery is inspected at every oil change. If you want it tested sooner, see our battery service page. Our service pick-up and delivery page says the option is available to everyone in the greater Miami area.

Do you have to service your Wrangler at the dealer to keep the warranty?

No. The FTC says you don't have to use the dealer for maintenance to keep your warranty, but keep records of the work. The FTC states: "You don't have to use the dealer for repairs or maintenance to keep your warranty in effect." It adds a condition. If the warranty says the work will be done for free, the dealer or manufacturer can make you use repair facilities it chooses. The FTC also advises keeping records of oil changes, tire rotations and belt replacement.

Jeep's side matters too. The 2026 manual warns that failure to properly inspect and maintain the vehicle could result in a component malfunction. Jeep's warranty FAQ says the warranty does not include routine maintenance. Before any visit, check for open recalls with NHTSA's VIN lookup, or see our recall page.

What decides the cost of a Wrangler maintenance visit?

The mileage visit, the engine, how you drive and any extra work found at inspection all shape the bill. An oil change visit and a 60,000-mile visit with filters and plugs are different jobs. The 6.4L takes more oil than the 2.0L or 3.6L, according to Jeep's specifications, and it follows a shorter chart. Off-road or towing use adds fluid changes. Items found during inspection are quoted separately; our service page says no work is performed that you haven't authorized.

For current offers and their terms, see our service specials page. Brake work found at inspection is listed on the brake pad and shoe service page, and parts can be requested through the parts center. Get directions to our service department, or contact us with questions.

How often does a 2026 Jeep Wrangler need an oil change?

Follow the oil change indicator. For the 2.0L and 3.6L, Jeep's manual sets the limit at 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 engine hours, whichever comes first. For the 6.4L, the limit is 6,000 miles or six months, and Jeep recommends 4,000 miles or 350 engine hours in severe duty use.

Who resets the oil change indicator?

Jeep's manual says an authorized dealer will reset the oil change indicator message after completing the scheduled oil change. If someone else does the oil change, the message can be reset using the Instrument Cluster Display steps in the owner's manual. Resetting it without changing the oil defeats the reminder.

When does a 2026 Wrangler need new spark plugs?

It depends on the engine. Jeep's 2026 manual lists new plugs at 60,000 and 120,000 miles for the 2.0L. The 3.6L gets them at 100,000 miles, and the 6.4L at 96,000. Jeep notes the spark plug interval is mileage based only, so years do not count.

How often should the cabin air filter be replaced?

Every 12,000 miles, on all three 2026 Wrangler engines. That interval sits outside the 10,000-mile chart for the 2.0L and 3.6L, so it can fall between scheduled visits. The engine air cleaner filter is a separate item, replaced every 30,000 miles under the chart.

When is the coolant changed on a 2026 Wrangler?

For the 2.0L and 3.6L, Jeep lists a flush and replacement at 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. That covers the engine coolant and, if equipped, the intercooler, power electronics and battery coolant. For the 6.4L, the manual lists 120 months if not done at 150,000 miles.

How do I check my Wrangler for open recalls?

Use NHTSA's recall lookup with your 17-character VIN, which NHTSA says is on the lower left of the windshield. It shows unrepaired recalls from certain manufacturers. NHTSA notes it may not show recalls more than 15 years old, or very recent recalls where not all VINs are identified yet. A dealer repairs recalled parts for free.

Is scheduled maintenance covered by the Jeep warranty?

No. Jeep's warranty FAQ says the warranty does not include routine maintenance. Coverage may also be restricted if the vehicle is not properly maintained, abused or neglected. Keep receipts and records for every visit, wherever you have the work done.

What should I check on my Wrangler between visits?

Jeep's manual lists checks for once a month or before a long trip. They cover oil and washer fluid, tire pressures and wear, coolant, brake and power steering fluid, and all lights. It also suggests lubricating the door hinge joints with white lithium grease twice a year.

Does this schedule apply to a 2027 Wrangler or an older Wrangler?

Not automatically. This guide follows the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Owner's Manual. Jeep publishes a maintenance schedule and owner's manual for each model year on its Mopar owner site, and intervals can change by year and engine. Use the manual for your own model year and VIN, or ask our service team to check it.
